I should have been a rock star

I won't miss this
With 3 more days of work until I retire to stay home with Jonah, I sit contemplating the last year and some change since I started interacting with the general ASU public. Comparing notes with Josh, who waited tables at the Chili’s on campus, and remembering our time working with a different group of college students in Provo, I have come up with a list of 8 things that should not be acceptable in the checkout line, at the teller’s window, or when ordering at a restaurant:
- Chewing. I mean tobacco, but trying to conduct business while eating is annoying, too.
- Talking on the phone. The Post Office here has a sign I like: ‘Until you are finished with your call, we will continue to help the next person in line.”
- Kissing. I’m okay with a peck or a little squeeze because I’ve had what Kari calls “spoony” moments, too. However, if you can’t wait until you get home to make out, at least wait until you’re through placing your order or paying your parking tickets. Please. The jury is still out on whether or not kissing at red lights is crossing the line, a little annoying, or perfectly fine.
- Nursing uncovered. My opinions on nursing in public have changed since trying it myself, and being the radical I am, I’m not even opposed to nursing uncovered. However, when in close proximity to a stranger, it seems to be a little less awkward for everyone involved if there’s a blanket around somewhere.
- Excessive grooming including, but not limited to: plucking eyebrows, popping pimples, picking scabs, and extra smelly lotions/oils.
- Taking off or putting on clothes. Coming to the office or going to eat with your shirt draped over your shoulder or in just your bathing suit is only acceptable when the ocean is within an audible distance. Since we’re hundreds of miles from the coast, Phoenix does not apply.
- Arguing with your mom. It can wait.
- Bragging about your indescretions (i.e. getting drunk, stoned, or arrested). Add this with #3 and #6 and you have the majority of fraternity boys I deal with.
Honorable mentions or the ones that irritate me but might not be considered rude to everyone or everywhere:
- Inappropriate clothing. I don’t mean revealing; I mean PG-13 words or pictures. The girl I saw today with a t-shirt I wouldn’t want my kids to see also had a personalized license plate: SPANKY9. Classy.
- Swearing. I just don’t think it’s necessary when talking to a stranger.
- Breathing smoke on me. Although smoking is no longer allowed inside public buildings in Arizona, I have had people save up their smoke (it seems) only to exhale it all over my face.

Quindi?
So we're sitting in Italian and our professor keeps saying Quintin's name. Not surprising, since we were sitting in the back with the mafia goofing off. Not until the middle of the semester did we discover that 'quindi' means therefore (and was Kyle the teacher's favorite intro) not Quintin with an Italian accent.
That said, I'm very happy that Quindi has a blog now. While I, too, mocked the blogging world, I have discovered it's a great way to peer into the lives of those I love and miss. That said, 4 more days of work and I will get back to eating bon bons and posting pictures of the sea monster.

A new blog to stalk!
Quindi has entered the blogosphere! Check him out here: http://oaiaaiaeaei.blogspot.com/. Then, make sure you bookmark the page so you don't lose it (it's a hard name to remember). More on his blog and greatness later; I've got to get back to work!

olympics update
Bad news for the US men's gymnastics team: no Hamms! If you are obsessed like I am and don't feel like cleaning house, check out nbcolympics.com for updates and movies. No one really cares about the opening ceremonies (read: I won't be watching) but I can't wait for some good gymnastics. I'm rooting for Chellsie Memmel, even if she does spell her name wrong.
[Update: It looks like Chellsie is injured, too. That's too bad.]
Reading Emily's comments made me think of how much fun Katie, Erin & I had pretending we were Olympic gymnasts. It's amazing what you can do with a sofa, pillows, or a trampoline.

Saturday is a special day
...it's the day we get ready for Sunday:
We clean the house and we shop at the store,
so we won't have to work until Monday.
We brush our clothes, and we shine our shoes,
and we call it our get-the-work done day.
Then we trim our nails, and we shampoo our hair,
so we can be ready for Sunday!
I don't know what 'brush our clothes' really means, but Jonah loves Saturday because he gets a bath. Don't worry, I sometimes bathe him more often than that.
He doesn't love getting out of the bath. No matter how quickly we dry him off, or how fun the towel, he is not amused.
