requests

Jonah helped me with the grocery list, as usual. He requested 4 things: spaghetti, pears, grapefruit, and candy. When I said, "well I don't know" to the candy, he replied with, "yeah, we might still have some. I'll check."

He has also become quite interested in how various foods are made. A popcorn maker, for example, pops popcorn. We can't make ice cream (like he's been asking to) without an ice cream maker*, so one day this week he said, "but that's okay because we still have a birthday cake maker" which I'm assuming is a cake pan?

*I think I'll buy some cream and show him how we can make ice cream in a bag. He will be asking for ice cream daily after this, I'd wager.

one month old

Caroline is one month old tomorrow. When Jonah was one month old, we went to California for Anna-Lisa and Juan Carlos's wedding. This time, we'll celebrate by staying home and going to the doctor (poor immunized baby). One of my favorite pictures of Jonah at that age reminded me of one I took yesterday of Caroline. In retrospect, they don't look that much alike. Jonah had way more hair (and rolls!) but it appears their noses are more similar than I thought. Oh, how we love these little babies.

Repentant photographer

I haven't been very diligent updating with pictures, but I will attempt to remedy that over the next few days. Happy browsing!

Hurray!

This happy smile is coming home to us tonight.

We can't wait!

Also, I meant to get him a doll before Caroline was born. A basic, nothing fancy sort of doll. All kids need something to love on, especially with a new baby in the house. Each time I looked, though, I was overwhelmed by the electronic, giant, fancy dolls. Where are the regular ones these days? Anyway. I need not have worried too much. Here is Jonah swaddling Lady, his most-loved puppy:

(And no, the child wears no clothes, even in the dead of winter.)

For comparison's sake, 3 weeks

When Jonah was 3 weeks old, I posted this.

Today being the day after Caroline's 3-week-versary (really, what sort of word is there for this sort of occasion), I notice some similarities. I am fighting a sore throat and general sickness. There are some differences, too. Instead of sleeping 4 hours, Caroline has been up every hour and a half. If only she could have taken that part of the family tradition and left the sick part.

I'd better hop back in bed for my next 45 minutes of sleep. Unless of course this is the part of the night where she'll sleep for 4 hours?

One can hope.

it's too cold to do anything else

So I finally took some pictures.

Not to be outdone, Caroline tried on the glasses, too.

Grandpa showing Jonah how to use a hand saw.

Sleepy sleepy little baby.

"Me loving her", in Jonah's words.
70 degrees yesterday and highs in the 40s today? No thank you! Still, I'll take it over highs in the 40s (or worse!) all winter long.

good luck

I read some parenting forums in the middle of the night. The closing at the end of one post was, "Good luck. It won't last forever." That will be my new mantra when I'm frustrated because I know I will be, even when I start getting more sleep (which at the moment seems like it would fix everything).
This picture is just too sweet not to share (thanks, Mom!), so forgive the fuzziness.

Flat Stanley's glasses?

This is what happens when you leave your sunglasses in our car. I guess we ought to get one of the baby, too, before we blackmail the poor Elder who left them.

9 days old

I've been waiting 9 days to sing this song:

Saturday, January 7, 2012

Congratulations!

Congratulations! I wish we were there to celebrate with you. May the day be beautiful and stress-free.

7 days

Today is a day to be celebrated! Quintin is getting married today, but that will be its own post. Poor Caroline already has to share the spotlight with Jonah as it is. The other reason to celebrate is our favorite one-week old:
Also, how long will this song be stuck in my head?

We're a week in and still going strong.

brotherhood, according to Jonah

Heard around our house recently:

I washed my hands so I can hold my baby!

J: Hey, where'd that little girl go?
me: You mean Caroline?
J: Yeah, that one.

I love Caroline Ruth

(while holding her, if we try to help) No, no, only I get to touch her!

(This morning, I was feeding Caroline and Josh was still asleep when Jonah woke up. He ran to the bed and climbed in between us. At some point, Caroline started fussing.)
Shhh, baby! Shhh, it's okay. I'm here. Your brother Jonah is here.
(more fussing)
Shh, Caroline! Daddy is still sleeping!
(Jonah leans over and puts his face right in Josh's)
Daddy, she won't be quiet at you!

Caroline Ruth Mays

I am very aware people only really want pictures, so here you go! I will be posting all the pictures we have taken so far on my facebook (not that there have been a ton). -Josh
